Wampus Cats to host Independence fireworks again on July 3

The Uwharrie Wampus Cats are excited to announce the team will be hosting a big Independence Celebration on July 3 with a postgame fireworks show for the second straight year at Don Montgomery Park.

The Wampus Cats, Albemarle’s collegiate wood-bat baseball team, will take on their rival, the Carolina Disco Turkeys, at 7 p.m. and the game will be followed a few minutes later by the fireworks.

“This game was a huge event last summer, and we can't wait to do it again for all the fans in Albemarle,” said team owner Greg Sullivan. “Before last year we were told there hadn't been an Independence fireworks show in Albemarle for decades and the response was great. We’d love to see a lot of locals and area fans come out to the game again where they’ll have the best view of the show. You can't do much better than baseball and fireworks this time of year.”

For those who have not been to games, all Wampus Cats games include concessions and beer sales. No outside food or drinks may be brought in. Parking at the park will be only for those attending the game.

The team is expecting a big turnout and strongly encourages fans to buy tickets in advance at wampuscatsbaseball.com in case of a sellout on the day of game. The venue has a capacity of 1,000 fans. Fans may bring their own chairs and sit in areas not obstructing walking paths or seated sightlines.

Tickets for the game, including the fireworks show, are $8 in advance at the team's ticket website and $10 at the gate and can be purchased in advance at www.tickettailor.com/events/uwharriewampuscats. Children 3 and under get in free.
