Wampus Cats opening day roster announced

The Uwharrie Wampus Cats are pleased to announce their Opening Day roster for the 2025 season. The Wampus Cats open on the road before beginning the home slate this Saturday night at Don Montgomery Park against the Greensboro Ducks. 

The home opener will begin at 7 p.m. and tickets are $8 at the gate and $6.75 in advance.

This year's squad will have an international flavor as three players Ido Peled, Tomer Erel and Shaked Baruch hail from Israel and played in that country's national team system. Meanwhile, Barry University pitcher Malik Foster comes to the Wampus Cats from the Bahamas.

That said, most of the roster hails from North Carolina, including several from the Uwharrie Region, including Rylan Furr (New London), Jett Thomas (Locust),  Ben Mecimore (Albemarle), Brendan Fulcher (Oakboro) and Connor Lindsey (Locust).

"We can't wait to see these players from all over the world and, for many of them, right around the corner, work together and build an identity," said team president Greg Sullivan. "We expect to see an exciting team and for many of these players to build on very successful spring seasons at their colleges."

Outfielder Anderson Moreno led his school Bluefield State in hitting in 2025 and Cleveland Community College outfielder Cruise Arnold hit .350 with 7 home runs for the Yetis.

"We've found some dynamic players and we can't wait to meet many of them over the next few days," Sullivan said.
