Wampus Cats Gearing Up for Home Opener Saturday Night

Albemarle opens 2026 home schedule May 23 at Don Montgomery Park

ALBEMARLE, N.C. — The Uwharrie Wampus Cats are gearing up for their 2026 home opener Saturday night, as college wood-bat baseball returns to Don Montgomery Park in downtown Albemarle.

Following an away game on Friday night, the Wampus Cats will open their home schedule against the Marion Hungry Mothers, in their first home game as a member of the Blue Ridge League. This weekend starts a busy early stretch for Uwharrie, with upcoming home matchups against the Davie County Crocketts, Spartanburg County Peaches and Greensboro Yard Goats.

This summer’s Wampus Cats roster features players from college programs across North Carolina and beyond. The team includes players from Columbia, Catawba, Pfeiffer, Montreat, Bluefield State and Tusculum, among several other programs.

Several players on the roster have Albemarle or Stanly County ties, including Catawba pitcher Sam Carpenter, Pfeiffer catcher/utility player Ben Mecimore, Bluefield State pitcher Brodie Smith, Pfeiffer pitcher/infielder Jack Crump, Catawba Valley Community College catcher/utility player Carter Callicut and Pfeiffer pitcher Carter Moon.

The Wampus Cats’ home schedule includes multiple visits from some of the Blue Ridge League’s top-drawing clubs, including the Carolina Disco Turkeys and Queen City Corndogs. A July 3 home game with fireworks against the Corndogs highlights the holiday portion of the schedule, while the home slate wraps up July 25 against the Crocketts.

All Wampus Cats home games will be played at Don Montgomery Park.

The top two teams in the Blue Ridge League standings will meet in a best-of-three championship series in late July.
