Wampus Cats finish up with winning season

The Uwharrie Wampus Cats wrapped up their inaugural season last month and finished with a winning record, picking up lots of fans along the way.

The independent summer collegiate club finished up the year 18-17 despite playing a tough schedule that included a handful of games scheduled at Coastal Plain League opponents.

Among the highlights were a handful of wins against their rival club up Highway 52, the Carolina Disco Turkeys, as well as a win over the Boone Bigfoots late in the year.

The Wampus Cats will look to build on the momentum when they return to the diamond in May of 2024. The team drew great crowds all season in their first summer and welcomed more than 6,000 fans to Don Montgomery Park.
